The fees for S.F.I. leads range from as low as 5% up to 18%. If your current fully loaded marketing costs are over 10-15% or more, this may look workable. However, remember you may be called upon to put displays in the stores and man those displays as well.

Do the arithmetic, when you add the cost of in store displays, demonstrators or others required to do floor time you may detect another 8 or 9% – which when added to the fee paid could total 24 or 25%.

You have to confirm the leads, set the appointments and train salespeople to handle this “third party source” – still, it might be workable. Provided you can attain margins which permit this excessive marketing cost and still make a net profit.

Most of these S.F.I. partners supply heavy traffic for your exposure and many are equally demanding as to what and how products will be sold. They have a legitimate concern because they fear that aggressive selling will “put the squeeze” on their customers. Thus, the need for upgraded sales training is required. Beyond which you will also have to develop an ongoing relationship with the store manager and those other persons with which you have to interact. Whether you consider the terms or actions excessive or unfair – it’s their turf and you have to learn to act according to their culture.

You may find that S.F.I. partners require that you cover multiple stores and respond to each lead promptly. Thus the smaller sales organization may rapidly get inundated with leads which they can’t service promptly. Moreover, it requires a blending of two extremely different cultures. S.F.I. dealers (home improvement contractors) often salivate thinking of the potential of abundant leads, failing to understand that big box stores who advertise “lowest everyday prices” stimulate that kind of thinking for their customer, so the prospect you get may be conditioned to getting the lowest prices irrespective of the top of the line product you may offer. As one of our clients who has an S.F.I. relationship puts it, “The customer is looking for Nordstrom quality and service, at Walmart prices.” Thus S.F.I. dealers need to look carefully at their attitudes about customer satisfaction, then extend them to meet the requirements of their new strategic partner.

Another concern is if the relationship will last? Some years ago Lowe’s had such a program which had numerous manufacturers and hundreds of dealers involved. When they cancelled the program abruptly, those dealers involved were forced to remove their samples and displays from Lowe’s stores, to cease taking leads and discontinue selling practices.

Those dealers involved, scrapped their sample cases, presentation books, brochures, and sometimes uniforms which identified them with the Lowe’s program. In addition the programs and personnel dedicated to the S.F.I program for which the cost of hiring, training and development had been expensed, had to be written off.

Arguably, Lowe’s had experiences with some dealers within the program which they saw as unfavorable. If they saw this as a threat to their customer service image, they believe they acted wisely. However, this case makes it requisite for a dealer to examine thoroughly and act prudently prior to simply jumping on the bandwagon with an S.F.I. program.

The same may be said of involvement with a brand name which offers exclusivity as to product and territory. Frequently agreements tend to be overtly in their favor, begging the questions: What if they decide to introduce a similar product in your territory? What if they introduce a product under another name, yet, similar design or demand unrealistic quotas for product purchases or performance, or have unilateral cancellation privileges favorable to them?

On a positive yet sobering note, for those getting involved in either an S.F.I. or brand program, there is a retraining process that is necessary. Many of our valued clients have strong partnerships with brand name merchandisers. It does however require developing a new or modified sales and marketing model with explicit controls on sales styles and presentation methods, but with all these cautions, it is still workable for those who plan structures and control their new model.

Two questions are inherent in our evaluation of these kinds of relationships. The first is – Are the fees fair? The answer is – not in all cases. Certain “big box stores” make a 2 or 3% pre-tax net profit which requires purchasing, storage, merchandising, packaging and tons of personnel. In the case of a 10 to 18% S.F.I. fee, they may put little effort into the partnership except to extract a fee which requires little or no investment beyond their good name and some middle management interaction.

The other problem is a “clash of cultures”. Big home improvement product-oriented-retail merchandisers seldom understand the true dynamics of how a sale is accomplished in the home and do not put much energy into finding out how it is actually done. Neither are they aware of the numerous and enigmatic issues involved with hiring and training specialty salespeople to perform a customer appreciated sales methodology.

In truth, the “in-store big box customer” frequently places a strong value on the brand name relationship, yet is used to purchasing without the necessity of the abundant discussions that go into a home improvement project or the psychological dynamics that are present in a professional in-home presentation – the lack of which, can create high levels of customer dissatisfaction if the sale is made.

In many cases the S.F.I dealer unconsciously becomes subject to “big box” policy – as an example the store may have a policy of, “If you are not completely satisfied, return the product and we will refund your purchase price”. While this is great for cash and carry products, it can be costly when a customer desires to cancel long after the 72 hour [3 working days] rule of rescission has expired. In some cases where custom windows were sold, measured, then made to order, the policy when enforced by the store leaves the dealer with inventory that could be un-sellable because of custom sizing.

The final caution deals with cash flow. Once you make the marketing investment, advance your salesperson a portion of the commission, order and pay for your product, permits, and installation costs and ultimately have a satisfied customer (in most cases) you will wait for payment because your “big box” partner does not remit payments until the job is fully completed and customer satisfaction is assured.

The latter, is not a condemning statement. Your strategic partner has every right to have these assurances, it is nonetheless, important to understand that you will dramatically increase your accounts receivable with this model of interaction.

All that being said, S.F.I. relationships with brands or “big box” stores represent an effective method for lead development provided there is fairness to both parties, a proper plan for utilization and control is implemented.

So what is project management?

Project management is the application of knowledge, skills, tools and techniques to a broad range of activities in order to meet the requirements of the particular project. A project is a temporary endeavour undertaken to achieve a particular aim.

The Latin word projectum means, “to throw something forward.” Project Management is all about making things happen and moving forward and has existed for thousands of years. For example, the Great Pyramid of Giza 2,550 B.C, the Great Wall of China 221 B.C. – 206 B.C or the Roman Coliseum 80 A.D. all used project management techniques.

Project Management is as much a way of thinking as it is an approach that can be applied to any initiative large or small that must deliver within a certain timeframe and cost, in order to meet specific objectives.

Recognised as an essential capability for organisations to maximise value and reduce costs, Project Management has developed considerably in the past 20 years. Today Project Management is a professional discipline with a body of knowledge, a set of skills and competencies and professional certification bodies (listed at the end of this article).

The Basic Principles

There are a number of significant principles which determine success in any project. These are simple and well known principles, however they are difficult to apply and are quite frequently ignored in practice.

1. Precise Business Needs

Successful projects are business driven. This represents the ‘why’ of the project, and it is important because it provides the basis for all decision making.

2. Defined Benefits

Projects are about translating the business need into the business benefit. In addition to the business need, the ‘bottom line’ benefits must also be well defined in terms of source, timing and quantity.

3. Explicit Plans

Effective planning, allows people to work together in a co-ordinated way in order to achieve the project objectives. Effective planning is dependent on being at an appropriate level of detail and being presented in an appropriate way.

4. Agreed Deliverables

Quite simply a ‘deliverable’ is an unambiguous way of defining responsibilities in terms of outputs rather than inputs. Each phase, area and task within the project plan should have a tangible deliverable associated with it, ie. something that one can see, touch, or otherwise validate.

5. Pro-Active Decision Making

Project work has little momentum of its own, unlike routine work. All parties involved are therefore required to take the initiative and actively look for ways of driving and improving the project outcome.

6. Single Point Responsibility

In business tasks are only completed successfully when people have unambiguous accountabilities. ‘Single point responsibility’ for results is of the very essence. The Project Manager is ultimately responsible for making the project happen and must ensure that every staff member receives the right amount of project management training accordingly.

7. Active Follow-Up

Plans have practical value only when they are used to help people do their daily work. They are similarly used as a means of identifying problems while there is still time to overcome them. Plans must therefore be used throughout the entire project in order to allocate tasks and monitor achievement.

8. Open Communications

Time must be invested in communication as it is the key to a successful project. By effectively communicating the project and issues everyone involved has the opportunity to take the initiative and contribute fully with ideas and decisions.

9. Good Teamwork

Teamwork in projects is absolutely critical but does not happen automatically. Project work involves people from different parts of the organisation, often with competing priorities and different perspectives, which can make teamwork all the more difficult to achieve. Teams must therefore be actively developed by the Project Manager.

10. Strong Leadership

Successful projects are usually led by an individual who is committed to the project objectives, and who has a completely clear view of where the project is going and how they intend to get there. The leadership qualities of the Project Manager are as important as their technical management skills.

Benefits of Project Management

In order to apply project management principles it takes time and effort, disciplines and techniques. The results are there for the taking if you are prepared to make the effort.

Applying a project management approach is not easy. At the start of a project the project management approach may not necessarily show immediate results. But the investment always pays off in the long run.

Project management adds value in quite a number of ways, some of which are detailed below:

1. maximises the benefits of the project by focusing the efforts, of everyone involved, on the business need while working to improve the value of the result.

2. advances the benefits by minimising the time taken for the project and wherever possible, achieving a phased delivery of business results.

3. optimises resources by ensuring that everyone knows what they have to do.

4. minimises costs by ensuring that only essential work is completed, and that work does not have to be redone.

5. avoids wasted time simply by communicating extensively, and running effective meetings which result in agreed actions, which are completed.

By using project management principles and practices millions of dollars can be saved on projects. It can dramatically accelerate the introduction of beneficial change, and greatly increase the satisfaction of everyone involved, alleviating enormous frustration usually involved in projects.

When applied with sensitivity and adjustment the benefits of project management far outweigh the time and energy invested.

If the objective of your training program is to give people the technical information they need to do their jobs, you may well be aiming too low. Training programs can achieve multiple objectives, and there are many secondary objectives that can add to the impact of a training curriculum. You’re paying a lot of money to bring all these people together, why not get more out of your training program by taking a little bit of time to design it, carefully, with layered objectives in mind?

Company managers and HR departments like to categorize employee training into two camps: job-specific technical training and management and leadership skill-building training.
Most organizations have some form of technical training. It’s industry-specific, or even job-specific. It teaches the required skills for employees to succeed at the job for which they’ve been hired.

Then there’s the other training, the froo-froo, the fluff, the HR training, usually reserved for managers and often consisting of half-day seminars on topics such as conflict resolution, communication, problem solving, and team building. These are the so-called soft skills.
Too often, the soft skills training involves made up scenarios and role-playing. Oh, how corporate managers love role-playing. (Okay, they don’t, usually.) These skills are important to build good managers and leaders, but so often the people that attend them view their time spent as wasted.

The junior people, on the other hand, are enrolled in the technical training programs. The higher-ups think they’re not yet ready for the management-oriented soft-skills training. Or are they? Consider this: as your entry level and junior people grow within the company and move up the ladder to more serious management roles, these skills are absolutely the skills that they will need.

Building durable skills

We’d suggest that these so-called soft skills are actually durable skills, because they can be used at any level of the company, across organizations and even outside of the work environment. They increase the emotional intelligence quotient of your managers and employees, which impacts the efficiency, productivity and sophistication of your organization.
Here’s our big question: why do companies continue to offer technical training and soft skills or durable-skills training as two separate training programs?

Layering

This deliberate initiative to reinforce more than one learning objective in a training or workshop is what we call layering. It means designing a program with both technical and durable skills in mind.

What we’ve found is that combining these two kinds of trainings is a powerful way to deepen the participant’s learning experience for both types of content. The durable skills provide context for the technical content, and the technical content is made more relevant because of the durable skill-building.

Here’s an example of what we mean:

Let’s say we’re training a group of junior insurance underwriters. It’s not uncommon to give them a case-study; for instance a business case about determining if a claim is fraudulent or legitimate. Instead of just reading and discussing the case, layer in a real-life durable-skill building experience. Put the participants into several teams to study the case. Give them a challenge, for instance, to report back their findings in a comprehensive and succinct presentation.

When the case study is finished, the activity is debriefed, first of all, on its technical content. What was the pertinent information? What was the protocol required? What was the best outcome? What was the learning from the case study? Teams present back their insight into the case based on their discussion. The technical learning objectives are accomplished. It answers the question: what did we learn about our job?

Then there’s a second element to debrief, using prompts to reinforce the durable skills: How did the team work? Who led the discussion? Was it effective? Who took leadership of the team, when, and how? When were you engaged as a team member, and when were you not? This part of the debrief answers the question: What did we learn about ourselves while doing the assignment?

And even a third layer to debrief. Part of the assignment was to make a comprehensive and succinct presentation. Discuss the content and delivery of the presentations and how comprehensive or succinct they were and how they might have been improved. Now you’ve added a third level of learning, with an additional opportunity for reflection on presentation skills.

The team experience is real-time and the content is not pretend or role-played. It’s real-life. The result is a more memorable experience that is deeper on both the technical level and the durable skills level, in this case team leadership skills and potentially, presentation skills. And for those whom the technical content is easy, they have a whole separate learning platform to keep them engaged in the training.

A layered training: what else can you incorporate?

If you recognize that there are a number of learning opportunities that can be woven into a single training, then you can act deliberately to choreograph the training day so the objectives of your organization are better served by the training budget.
A few examples of potential layered training objectives:

Team building

This is the boot-camp phenomenon. Anyone who has been through a rigorous program with a group of people knows the ties built during an offsite multiple-day training can be powerful beyond explanation. This creates an informal mentoring and support network within your organization. It is an opportunity to build lasting employee relationships across platforms at every level.

Building presentation skills

Consider this: a training course is a presentation in itself. External presenters are often skilled presenters. You can take advantage of this expertise by simply asking your presenters to be overt about the process they use to present to the group; this provides a separate learning platform for group members who are tuned in. Now you’re using the training curriculum as an opportunity for internal presenters to hone their presentation skills as well as building technical content and knowledge.

Plus a training course is packed with opportunities to make presentations. After breakout groups do their work, someone has to report back to the full group. Instead of two boring talking heads at a flipchart, inspire participants to make their presentations dynamic and compelling.

Feedback skills

There’s a whole curriculum about giving feedback and other related communication and conflict resolution tools. It can be incorporated into any technical training in the simplest ways. For example, give participants some general guidelines on giving feedback, and then ask them to use it as they give participants feedback on their presentations when they report after a breakout session. The presenting participants can get feedback on their presentations, and the whole group can debrief how that feedback was given. Everybody gets to practice what they need to learn.

Debriefing as a leadership skill

Debriefing is a valuable business tool. In order to have something to debrief, build exercises into the training. Indeed, a training session without exercises is not a training – it’s a lecture. Not only will doing help people remember what they learned, it will wake them up. And, an exercise is an experience, and all experiences are real even if they take place in a training environment. Exercises give practice run-throughs and debrief opportunities. Debriefing invites the participants to educate each other on both content and process.

Mining for organizational challenges

For leadership programs, try not to spend too much time on contrived pretend-scenarios. You can teach leadership skills and tackle important organizational challenges at the same time. It makes sense, since leadership requires the capacity to thoughtfully address the primary challenges facing an organization. If you’re going to role-play, do it on a real challenge, that’s real-time, right now. People will pay more attention. The skills they gain through the activity will be authentic. And there’s a greater chance of really addressing any challenges or conflicts if you’re examining it in the focused environment of a training experience. Don’t be afraid of real life!

Creating internal consulting teams within the organization

People who have been to a ‘layered’ training together develop a camaraderie, shared experience and shared skills, and often loyalty as they get that the organization is investing in them. Imagine that a breakout group bonds while working on a case study during a training. After the training, an organization can leverage these performing teams by creating opportunities to work on special projects, to help solve specific challenges. In fact, identification of these challenges often occurs during training classes. The organization need only have some loose structure in place to reap the benefits of these teams continuing to work on challenges faced by the organization.

Promoting the organization’s core values and mission

Make your mission more than just words on a page. Use debriefs to touch upon and reinforce the company’s vision, mission and its core values. If a company’s mission is authentic, it is intertwined with every aspect of how it functions, day-to-day as well as in training programs. If your training program – even a very simple technical training – doesn’t reinforce your company’s core values and mission, you’re missing an opportunity to bang a drum that needs to be played every chance you get. It’s also a chance to help employees learn and determine if their values are consistent with the company’s values, and vice-versa!

Layering to leadership

Identify the most important durable skill that your organization wants to reinforce. Maybe it’s teamwork. Maybe it’s feedback skills. Whatever it is for your organization, layer this in. For junior level trainings, this may be the only durable skill that gets layered into the curriculum can just touch on one key aspect of the manager’s training.

Introduce durable-skills into training programs and many good things can happen. You’ll get a sense of which of your junior people have the skills to grow as potential managers. You’ll create a common language between junior and senior people as the junior people begin to understand what their bosses are learning in their training. In addition, the company underlines its commitment to its people by giving them a taste of skill building beyond their current job description.

In short, increase the bang for your buck

A good training program will inspire participants to deliberately expand their own self-awareness while on their path to greater leadership. You can speed this process by finding and implementing layering opportunities. Increase the bang, decrease the bucks, and build a training regimen that reinforces the culture you want to create in your organization.

Canvassing may well be one of the better marketing methods for companies large and small in this decade. Yet, modern canvassing has almost no relationship to the canvassing programs initiated 2 decades ago or perhaps even 3 years ago. Today, it requires that you think about the kind of people you will hire, how they will be supervised and by whom, those specific territories in which to canvass and when. Add to that a system of goals and quotas plus a compensation system that is both motivating, yet structured for control.

Canvassing crews need to be supervised by someone with specific skills for hiring, training and supervising. The crew has a responsibility to fulfill goals (number of leads) and the supervisor has to be a hands-on person who sees that the goals of the crew are met, including personal lead development to meet quotas if necessary. Our research indicates that the people who work best in the canvasser role are college students who fit a designated behavior profile, those who will work 18 to 20 hours a week, yet under a thousand hours per year. Our studies show that the best hours are between 3:30 and 7:30 PM daily and for those that work Saturday, 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM.

When all components of a good canvassing program are met, the average canvasser develops 10 leads per week, with the goal of an 80% confirmation rate, a 70% sit rate, a minimum 33% closing rate, a 70% retention rate which in turn produces volume sufficient to compensate for the total cost of a supervisor and high enough earnings to attract the best people for canvassing.

Executed properly, the program will support canvassers who earn $400 to $450 for a 20 hour week, a supervisor who can earn $45,000 plus annually and the cost of a van for transport.

When all the latter factors are in place, the fully loaded marketing costs of the canvassing program will be 10% or less. Obviously, situations such as pre-canvass marketing (door hangers) or brand recognition through various forms of advertising strengthen the canvass program.

The stock market should present us with a wide variety of NEW hot penny stocks in 2009. Many of them are going to be new technology stocks that come from the nanotech, biotech, financial, energy, healthcare & communications sectors.

Most of them might seem promising, but the truth is that a good number of these trading & investing opportunities could be extremely risky, while others are simply not as good as they look. That’s why it’s very important to know how to choose among the best especially if you want to day trade them.

When you know how to pick and approach the best hot stock trading opportunities, you are able to generate a consistent and respectable amount of money in a very short period of time.

Experienced day traders recognize that trading hot stocks on momentum can be the fastest way to make money in the stock market, especially on uncertain times like these.

You don’t necessarily have to trade momentum hot stocks all the time. But you can learn how to take advantage of them when you encounter the best opportunities for going long or for shorting them to make money when they are poised to fall down.

If You decide to day trade penny stocks just keep always in mind that for a trader to survive and be consistently profitable, its necessary to keep things as simple as possible. To much confusion and technical indicators will most of the time make you slow in your decisions and froze you up when a good opportunity is right in front of your screen.

In the end, stock market day trading is all about picking the best daily stock opportunities and following your buy and sell signals with ease and simplicity. Once you learn to master your trading decisions, you can aspire to produce consistent profitable results.

have you been put off of the concept in the misguided belief that you’d need to buy and store a large volume of stock in order to trade? Then there’d be the added hassle of packaging and posting items to your customers. Looked at like that it seems a little bit too much like hard work, right? Wrong. With dropshipping all the hassle is dealt with for you. You never have to buy or store stock and you never have to send a single thing to your customer. The dropshipper handles all that for you.

Okay, so it’s starting to seem like a more attractive prospect now you look at it like that. As an eBay merchant the secrets to successful dropshipping are: Choosing products that are in high demand that you can sell at prices that will attract customers. And, making sure that your shipper has the items in stock before you submit listings of them sale is vital. When eBay buyers want something they want it now!

That’s one of the reasons so many of us shop online; it’s quick and convenient. You don’t want to burst the bubble by not being able to deliver goods promptly. Running an eBay dropshipping business won’t cost you the earth. Usually all that is required is a on off fee to the dropshipper to entitle you to sell their merchandise, after that their share of the proceeds come from the agreed proportion of the retail price. After cost, post and packing, the rest is your profit.

If you are new to dropshipping and new to the company you have chos en they may require you to pay them prior to shipment. Very often, however, this is not necessary once a good and trusting working bond has been formed. In any case, this shouldn’t prove prohibitive, as your customer will already have paid you when the goods were bought from you. Dropshipping services, if used correctly, represent a very good way to make eBaying a profitable and simple to run business for many people who want to work from home.

Like some it this week into a month in March and then formally. In this month we are meeting in the seminar. This is a personal Yimadvance.org I must say it all excited and happy. I will have many opportunities friends who have learned together and include. Who may not have access panels.

Before the seminar, which begins in 23 days according to schedule seminars to inform, it must tell that from this week. I will come to a radio talk. Exchange ideas. And how to prepare. Prior to the seminar. This is very important to consider other if not ready for us to be in class. We will lose many opportunities to. remember that because of this seminar is not to create a roughly. But of course is long known that more than 4 months each passing day means. Our revenue opportunities and to widening the strategy. I believe that it possible that. Who seriously if the income and be serious after the fourth month should be about nearly $ 100 – $ 300 and may double up as a lap.

Certainty that the next four months to come certainly. However, depending on decisions we will learn. And hands or not. If we decide. That means the revenue that will occur.

So I end this article. To friends. Preparation Seminar is to start their mission was clear then keep listening to the known. According to the table to inform it. Days before the seminar, which will enable us start with the maximum before March 23.

How did Bob Proctor go from making $4000 to $175,000 in just ONE year? And then in a short time later making millions?

In 1961, Bob Proctor was working at a fire house in Canada making $4000 a year. The problem was he was $6000 in debt. He would have to work an entire year without spending any money on food, rent and other necessities in order to get out of debt. Fortunately, a friend handed Bob a book called “Think and Grow Rich” by Napoleon Hill. This book changed Bob’s life.

In this book, Napoleon says to write down the exact amount of money you desire, determine what you intend to give in return for the money you desire, decide on a definite date you intend to possess the money you desire and create a definite plan for carrying out your desire. Bob did this. He wrote that he wanted to make $25,000 by the end of the year. He read it over and over as Napoleon Hill says to do but he didn’t really believe it…at least not at first. He finally realized that in order to get what you want; you need to believe that it is possible. Once he believed it would happen, the idea of opening an office cleaning business came to him. This business grew rapidly and within a year he was making $175,000. In a short time after that, he was making millions!

Do you think it is possible to think yourself rich? Bob Proctor does. Bob has helped countless people “think and grow rich”. He has spent 40 years teaching and motivating people to do just that.

If you have not experienced one of Bob Proctor’s seminars or saw him in the movie “The Secret” then you are in for a real treat. He is a phenomenal speaker, teacher and motivator.

Bob has a new program called “Six Minutes to Success”. This program involves a new video every weekday that will help you “think and grow rich”. I am fascinated by Bob so I decided to try his program. I started a week ago and already I feel like a new person. He says that you will see a marked improvement in your attitude in just a couple of weeks. Bob is teaching me to control my thoughts. He is helping me get rid of the negative thoughts and replace them with positive ones. I find myself looking for good in things I could only find bad. I set my goal and am working towards it. With the help of Bob Proctor I know I will reach it.

Six Minutes to Success can also help you in other aspects of your life. It can help you with relationships, both personal and work. It can help you reach goals other than making money. All you have to do is watch the one minute videos and then spend 5 minutes thinking about it. Hence, the six minutes a day.

Personal growth and self-motivation is what Bob Proctor teaches and teaches well. I can’t wait to see what I will accomplish with this program. Maybe I will reach my goal in one year instead of two. All I know is I’m hooked for life. I believe it will change your life, too.
