One of the main areas studied and practiced in Marketing Coursesis how to develop a marketing strategy and why it is so important to business.

Marketing strategies help an organisation concentrate their limited resources on the greatest opportunities to increase sales and achieve a sustainable competitive advantage. They are usually developed as multi-year plans with a detailed tactical plan for the current year and are very dynamic and interactive.

It is essential for any business to have a developed marketing strategy, although many business owners rely on their intuition when making business decisions. Intuition can help the decision making process, but it may lack some facts needed to achieve marketing results.

The purpose of one marketing strategy should be to identify and then communicate the benefits, which one organisation offers to its target market. This is done by covering the following main points:

Description of the company’s unique selling proposition (USP).

Definition of the company’s target market.

List of benefits of ones products or services.

Plan for the way to position ones products or services.

Definition of the marketing methods to be used: advertising, Internet marketing, direct marketing, or public relations, etc.

Tips
Focus should be on the market

There are different needs of different groups of customers and all should be analysed.

The market niche with best opportunities for success should be chosen.

Most of the efforts should be put into the 20 per cent of customers who provide 80 per cent of profits.

Follow-up

Strategy should be reviewed by a third party to double check for any gaps or weaknesses.

A marketing plan should go along with the marketing strategy, which sets out the aims, actions, dates, costs, resources and effective selling programmes.

Monitoring and measurement of the effectiveness is needed, as well as changes to things, which are not working.

Pitfalls to avoid

Making assumptions about what customers want.

Ignoring the competition.

Trying to compete on price alone.

Relying on too few customers.

Trying to grow too quickly.

Becoming complacent about what is offered and failing to innovate.

Classified advertising is a great way to get more leads and customers into your business. Even though they are small, you can really pack a punch with these small ads if ran in the right publications. But no matter where you run them, you will want to make sure that they follow all of the methods of direct response advertising.

You see most people when they run an ad, they are still requesting that people reply to them by mail. This is like tortoise marketing because it’s slow and takes so long to receive the information that was stated in the ad. In today’s world of phones and the internet, I still can’t understand why people are still requesting that people respond via mail. Don’t do this.

When running your classified ad, make sure that you’re using up to date technology so that you can make it easier for your prospects to respond to you. This isn’t considered a “secret” – instead, it’s more like common sense. If you’re planning on having people respond to you by mail, then you can pretty much kiss your business goodbye.

Now to make your ad work, you have to do your best to target your prospects. Targeting is important because you don’t want to sell an item to the wrong group of people. For example, if you’re selling a home based business opportunity, you don’t want to run ads for it in paper’s like the USA or Time Magazine. No, don’t do this. Instead, run your ad in home business magazines. This is where the bulk of your response will come from.

I’m getting a bit off track here, but I want to show you 2 quick ways to implement targeting in your business.

One of the best ways to start targeting in your business is to pick the right medium to advertise in. If you’re selling on the internet also, check to see if there are any forums and discussion boards that are in your line of business. This will give you a way to sell by website, and to lower your overall costs of doing business.

Another way to go about targeting is if you do direct mail. You can find a mailing list in something called the SRDS that will shortcut your learning curve. The SRDS contains a wide selection of mailing lists comprising of consumers who have recently bought something. And the more specific with your list that you go, the more success you will have with your mailing. So make the decision as to whether or not you should drill down to a highly specific group of people.

In respect to classified ads, you two ways to target your prospects:

    1) Run an ad in a targeted magazine
    2) Use your ad to connect with a particular group of people.

I think we already talked about running an ad in a targeted magazine, so let’s focus on using your ad to connect with a particular group of people. In the ad itself, there are many ways to target your prospect.

For example, you could run an ad in a fishing magazine that started off like this:

“ATTENTION FISHERMAN”. If you’re targeting body builders, you could say:

“ATTENTION BODYBUILDERS”… and etc. This is a great way to get someone’s attention.

Use these classified advertising tips to earn more money in your business today.

Good luck with making classified advertising work for you.

In order to get started with any online business, you have to know some internet marketing tactics that will work for you. As you promote your products online, you need this marketing plan to make each step in the process clear to you. You can easily get confused without a strategy to promote your website, get visitors and so forth. Let’s take a look at some solid internet marketing techniques that you can begin using right away.

Your attention has to be on your customers first. Have it clear in your mind who you are targeting with your products.

It’s easier to sell to a target audience than to everybody. You can’t please everyone. Instead, focus on mastering your own niche. Your prospects will be happy to come to you for a specialized solution rather than going for someone else. You build credibility and trust this way.

Another internet marketing strategy you should employ is networking with others in your niche, as this can help your business quite a bit. The more contacts you create, the better it is. It’s a good habit to contact people who are operating in your niche. With a little effort, you can get to know more people. You can find a lot of professionals on business networks such as Linkedin. There are also many Internet marketing forums such as the Warrior Forum that have many top experts carrying out discussions, making joint ventures, answering questions, etc.

Polls and surveys that you place on your site or send to your subscribers can be a good way to learn what people want. If you are aware of what your prospects and customers want, you can market to them much more effectively. You can create more targeted messages and choose more suitable products when you know your audience. When it comes to online marketing, you want to make your approach as targeted as possible. Surveys give you a very effective means to learn important facts about your target market. Surveys can be used to find out how people feel about particular issues or maybe a certain product or to find out what they are looking for in that niche, all of which can help your future promotional efforts. In essence, Internet marketing is an ongoing process, where you piece together several marketing elements to achieve the same end result. You can’t realistically expect to see long term results if you only work on way strategy. You will have to constantly analyze, strategize and apply new techniques to see higher profits. Focus on your products, present them well in front of your target audience and be clear on your website’s purpose. Don’t be discouraged if your profits are trickling in slowly at first, but stick to your plan and you’ll soon see the results you were hoping to achieve. And always remember that your goal as an Internet marketer is to offer the best possible value and quality to your customers at all times.
